master bedroom paint and odds and ends

Another room painted! We actually painted this one about 6 weeks ago, but I never posted about it. The color is Valspar Bay Sands, it's a nice soft warmer gray. I wanted a gray that wasn't icey cold, and I didn't want it to have any purple undertones, so this was perfect. I LOOOVE it next to all of the white in the room.

I added the mirror because I felt like we really needed something "shiny" and I'm still looking for a few more shiny things to spiff it up a bit.
Here it is before...
and here it is WAAAY before... right after we moved in.

We always throw an extra down comforter on in fall and winter, so I decided to add more color and texture by finding a new duvet cover. I think she's gorgeous, I love it.

I made this topiary using a (foam) pot thing that I already had. This had something leafy in it, it's been in the pile to donate to the DI for months now, but I dug it out and gave it a second chance. I had to use wire cutters to cut the pretend greenery out of it. From there it was easy, a moss ball and a stick from the yard.

I found the B at Hobby Lobby and just hoped it would be the right size for this empty frame I already had on hand. It was on sale, $3. I thought about painting it, but I kind of like the look of it for now.

So what's left? I have another night stand that's been on back order that should be here any day, that will help make things a little more symmetrical, and I scored this gorgeous chair from a classifieds ad for only $35. It's perfect, nice and small, lovely mustard colored velvet. Tufted buttons on the back...

Imagine it with new dark wood legs, if you please. :) I have plans for this baby.

I used it in our family pictures a few weeks ago, see, she's already part of the family!

The only problem is that even after steam cleaning it, it smells like old grandma mixed with stale smoke. Nasty! It's living in the garage until I can figure out what to do with it. Any suggestions? The guy who did the cleaning even sprayed a sanitizing and deodorizing spray on it, and it's better than it was, but I just can't put it in my bedroom smelling funky like it does.

I really want to find a way to keep it, so I'll try any reasonable suggestion. Throw 'em at me!

So pretty much that's it. The other nightstand and the chair, and then I'll really be "finished" in there, although I'm never really finished, but you all know what I mean, right? :)

Today is our official ONE YEAR housiversary! One year ago today, we were packing up our old house and saying goodbye to neighbors and friends and moving everything to a new county and new town. We are so happy to be here, we feel so at home! I have a little celebratory post planned, so come on back and visit and celebrate with us! :)

Love the yellow chair! I bought two similar matching chairs from Goodwill about 8 months ago. They are adorable and the delivery tag on them says they were purchased in 1964! They smelled like "Ethel", cigarettes and maybe cat. I vacuumed them, sprinkled them with 20 mule borax, vacuumed again and fabreezed the heck out of them. I left them on our screened in porch for about two weeks... it worked! They smell fine now. I think lots of fresh air helped. Good luck!

love the duvet...where did you find it?

Oh my gosh! Do we have the same duvet cover? Urban Outfitters? I haven't even unfolded mine yet. DRATS! I want to use it for sure now. I love your room. Too bad for the smell, 'cause that chair is LOVELY! Let me know if you find something that works.

I would try sprinkling with baking soda and leaving it on, then vacuuming off, then leaving outside in the breeze for a while. Then I'd Febreeze it- love that stuff!
Oh, and where do you live, it's so pretty! I'm thinking UT, but maybe Idaho? I'm just curious because I'd like to move back out west someday but I'd like to find the perfect town with a small, but not too small- town feel. Anyway, I love your house and seeing you transform it! We have similar taste.

When my husband and I moved into our apartment it had a nasty stale smell to it, it made me gag! So my sweet sweet husband did some research to figure out how to get rid of the smell. He read that Ozium (an air sanitizer) did wonders, so we tried it out. The smell was totally gone within about 2 to 3 days! Ozium might have a product that you can use on the chair...heck the spray might work! We just got ours at Walgreens. I hope this helps! Let me know if it works!

Okay, it sounds like baking soda it is. I'll try anything at this point! :)

Chris- it is from Urban Outfitters! They had a really bright red, blue and yellow one that I loved, but my hubby thought it looked like a hippie blanket and vetoed it! I do love it though, It's even better in person!

Elisabeth- email me! I'll give you specifics on our great little town!

RML-Thank YOU!!! I'm totally looking into Ozium. I've never even heard of this! I can't wait to try some of these things!!

You did a beautiful job with the bedroom re-do. Also love the yellow chair. Hope you can find a way to make it smell better. I don't blame you I wouldn't put it in my house! And it is good to meet another Mormon out there in bloggerville. Hope you will stop by my blog. Thanks for sharing your great ideas.

Have to tried febreeze?
Where did you get your little ampersand (and) on the nightstand? So cute!

Sunshine and fresh air for the chair plus the baking soda should help.

Also, how did you do your bed skirt. Is that just a sheet or fabric. I love it. My bed is similar and wondered what to do.

I love your bedroom...We too have gray in our house but in the bedroom we went for a blue...I have been in the process to figure out what to put on the walls...and how to spruse the room up a bit...you gave great inspiration.

Thanks!

I am totally diggin' that yellow chair! Have you tried Febrezing the chair? Or try using Renuzit for cars...it works wonders.

I'm a new follower! I found you at Perfectly Imperfect! :)

For odors...have you heard of Nok Out? I think it's only sold online, but it's amazing stuff nokout.com.
Gets the odors out of my teenagers shoes...takes care of pet odors in carpets and on and on. Nok Out claims to eliminate the odor at the source, not just cover it up.

Okay, I can't wait to try these suggestions! I did already try febreeze, several times, so far not much improvement! Thanks ladies, you are all so great, I'll let you all know when something works, I can't wait to bring it in to the room! :)

Happy housiversary!!! Your room looks great. Where did you find the duvet? Or maybe you said and I missed it. Love the photo shot from the foot of the bed. And that chair is AMAZING. Hope it works out for you.

I LOVE the gray! It is so calming -- I am wanting to do something similar in our master -- and when you pair it with yellow -- swoon! love it! That chair is AWESOME, I really hope you can get the smell out of it. Unfortunately, I am no help there, but luckily with the amazing world of blogging, I'm sure there will be plenty of people that know how! Good luck!
p.s. This is my first time to your blog, and I'll defnitely be back, I love it! :)

Yes, the chair is awesome! I have a green chair at a thrift store several months ago. The only thing I've found & been able to use as-is. Sorry I don't have any advice on the smell :(

Okay where did you get you bed? I NEED furniture in my house but I'm at a loss where to get it. I see all of the beautiful furniture on blogs and I want to decorate my home so bad! My bed is currently on a metal frame that we had for the last 7 years and have said we would get a wood bed ever since.

I was wondering about the bed too, it is so pretty!
